Blinds for Childrens’ Bedrooms

One of the most traditional and versatile type of window treatments is blinds. Unlike curtains or drapes, blinds let in light, or block out light while still providing a measure of privacy. They come in a variety of styles and colors to match any decor and are relatively inexpensive. Traditional coverings are perfect for any room in the house except for children’s rooms, due to the pull cords that are used to pull the blinds up or down. These pose a choking or strangling hazard to young children. If you still want them for a child’s room, there are many alternatives to traditional blinds, including custom, between-the-glass and cordless made especially for children’s rooms. In fact, many people choose to install one or more of these throughout their entire house as an added safety precaution.

Perhaps more importantly than in any other room in the house, a child’s room needs brightness and sunshine during playtime, and darkness and quiet during nap time or throughout the night. Nothing else provides these distinctions any time of day like a set of blinds. Thankfully, you can now purchase cordless to protect your child from danger. Simply push up on the bottom of the blinds to raise them or pull down to lower them – no strings attached!

In addition to safety features, this type of blinds is available in fun colors and patterns. Blinds for boys include traditional blue, and patterns like dinosaurs, footballs, robots and flying saucers. For the girls, there is traditional pink, in addition to kitten blinds, fairy blinds, geisha girl blinds and The Secret Garden blinds. All of these blinds come in a variety of shapes and sizes to fit any window in your home. They are also made of plastic or vinyl for easy cleaning.

If pre-made blinds are not your desire, order between-the-glass blinds or custom blinds. Not only are between-the-glass blinds cordless, but they are placed between two panes of glass where they are protected from dust and little hands. They easily snap in and out if you choose to change styles or colors. Choose permanent white blinds that you do not need to clean that are easily raised or lowered by levers rather than cords. Custom blinds are available as cordless or with cords in a wide range of colors, styles and fabrics or materials. Choose from wood blinds, faux wood blinds, composite blinds, aluminum blinds, vinyl blinds and fabric blinds. Read the rest of this entry »

Vinyl Tiles – A Perfect Invention for Home Decor

Vinyl tiles are a flooring material used primarily in commercial and institutional applications. Vinyl tiles are composed of coloured vinyl chips formed into solid sheets of varying thicknesses by heat and pressure. Tiles are applied to a smooth, levelled sub-floor using a specially formulated vinyl adhesive that remains tacky. Tiles are typically waxed and buffed using special materials and equipment.

Vinyl composition tiles took the place of asbestos tiles, which were widely used in schools, hospitals, offices, and public buildings up until the 1980s. Use of tiles and adhesives containing asbestos were discontinued when asbestos materials were said to be hazardous. The asbestos content of tiles can be determined by size or appearance. Tiles free of asbestos cannot be distinguished by their size although asbestos tiles were commonly manufactured. Square vinyl tiles manufactured before 1980 contain asbestos, and asbestos tiles were created in a variety of sizes. Adhesives containing low concentrations of asbestos were used into the 1970s and are generally considered non-hazardous because the asbestos is not considered friable.

Vinyl tiles simply adhere to your floor, so installing them is easy. Applying the adhesive, and laying the tiles on top of it. If you want to make things easier on yourself, you can get self-stick vinyl tile where you simply pull off an adhesive backing and stick the tile wherever you want it. Read the rest of this entry »
